Alfa's engineers admit they would have preferred a hydraulic steering system to a mechanical set-up but it would have added too much weight. But when any system is this accurate and communicative, who cares? OK, so it's heavy at parking speeds and the car meanders as the front tyres track ruts on a straight road, but it's never less than totally alive and faithful, and weights up in a linear fashion as you feed in lock during corners.
