It had only caught my attention because it wasn’t completely closed – the left side wasn’t flush with the wall, whether because it hadn’t caught properly or because the lock wasn’t working with the electricity out, I didn’t know. Still, it was not easy to get open – it was heavy, steel, and I had to pull with all my strength. Suddenly – with a pneumatic gasp – it gave so capriciously I stumbled.
