Curiously, though, it has long ignored its riverfront, or carelessly disfigured it, cluttering it with car parks, railways, main roads and even a motorway. Yet there are now signs of a change: the city is emerging from its lethargy and rediscovering its rivers, with new footpaths, new districts and new boat service, pulling the different districts together and making it easier to fathom out the city and its confusing jumble of bridges.
